Papers of Nile C. Kinnick, 1926-1991.

The papers of Nile Kinnick document not only his actual life as a student, athlete, and navy ensign, but also the legend that has grown around his memory. Letters that Kinnick wrote to his family and friends are included along with his wartime diaries. The manuscript of a book about Kinnick, which used these letters and diaries, is part of the collection. There are copies of speeches he gave, essays he wrote, and three scrapbooks devoted to Kinnick dating from 1936 to 1975. Much of the collection is comprised of photographs from his childhood through college and the navy, the "Ironmen" team, coaches, football games, award ceremonies, and friends. Tape recordings of interviews given by Nile Kinnick are also included. Finally, there are numerous articles written about the Kinnick legend, including a comic book version of his life.
